Also known as: Red Cap Gum
One of the most decorative Eucalypts. The flower buds each have a brilliant red square cap with a raised cross on top. The caps burst open in the Autumn to reveal a spray of rich yellow flowers and stamens 5cm (2″) across. The red buds and yellow stamens are present on the tree at the same time in large numbers, giving a magnificent display against the green foliage and smooth white bark of the trunk.
A quick growing and early flowering evergreen. It can be grown as a shrub by pruning hard after flowering or allowed to grow to around 5m (16′), occasionally reaching as much as 10m (33′) with a spread of 4m (13′).
