Common name: Blackwood, Hickory, Mudgerabah, Tasmanian blackwood, or Blackwood acacia

Acacia melanoxylon is a tall, resilient timber tree that is perfect for larger spaces like playgrounds and parks.

During late Winter to early Spring, it produces clusters of delicate, pale yellow flowers that add a touch of color during the colder months.

This tree thrives in rich, moist soil and prefers a sheltered spot with plenty of organic material.

Hailing from south-eastern Australia, this tree is part of the Plurinerves section of Acacia and is known for its wide-ranging distribution and variation in phyllode size and shape.

In its native habitat, it can bloom between July and December with inflorescences appearing in small groups on an axillary raceme.

Acacia melanoxylon is prized for its decorative timber, which is commonly used in cabinets, musical instruments, and boatbuilding.

With a density of approximately 660 kg/m3, this timber is strong, impact-resistant, and moderately stiff.
