Rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa) was introduced to Australia thousands of years ago by Indonesian fishermen through trade.

Despite being the same species, Rosella has developed unique characteristics that distinguish it from other varieties and have made it a beloved plant in Australia.

While commonly found in rainforest areas of Queensland, NSW, Northern Territory, and Western Australia, it is also commercially grown due to its high demand.

The edible calyxes are known for their high vitamin C content, sweet-tart flavor, and versatility in making jams, jellies, sauces, drinks, or teas. Its tart, citric flavor has been compared to mixed berries or rhubarb.
