The scientific name of this product is TELOPEA Speciosissima, also known as the Waratah or New South Wales Waratah.

It belongs to the Fabaceae family and can reach up to 3m in height and 1.5m in width.

This magnificent floral emblem of New South Wales is a sturdy and upright perennial shrub with long, dark green leaves. Its large crimson flowers bloom in the spring and attract nectar-feeding birds as pollinators.

These flowers also make beautiful cut flowers that can last a long time in water.

For optimal growth, it is best to plant this shrub in deep sandy soil that is low in plant nutrients but has good drainage and aeration.

Adding leaf compost to the surrounding soil can also be beneficial.

It may struggle to survive if suitable soil, aspect, or climate are not provided. Fortunately, it is highly resilient to bushfires, a natural element of its habitat, and can regenerate from the root-stock. After a moderate fire, flowering is typically reinitiated within two years.

This species is primarily found on the central coast and adjoining mountains of New South Wales, ranging from sea level to above 1000 metres.

It tends to grow in the shrub understory of open forests on sandstone and adjacent volcanic formations, with a moderately high rainfall.

When cultivating this plant, it is recommended to sow seeds on the surface of a coarse sandy soil, lightly covered by soil and supplemented with WILDFLOWER SEED STARTER granules and water. Germination usually takes 3-6 weeks, after which seedlings
