This low-growing indigenous plant features a unique mint flavor that can serve as a substitute for exotic mint.

Its common name, Bush Peppermint, is indicative of its aromatic similarity to exotic pennyroyal. It is an ideal potted plant as it spreads quickly to fill any given space, but regular light trimming is recommended for kitchen use.

Lamiaceae is the family, Mentha satureioides is the scientific name, and Native Mint is the common name. It is a clumping perennial that makes for good ground cover. It grows to a width of 0.5 and blooms in the spring and summer.

It thrives in sandy, clay, loamy, sandy loam, and potting mix soil types, in warm temperate, cool temperate, and Mediterranean climate zones.

Its evergreen and mound-shaped growth habit makes it a popular choice for landscaping. It requires well-drained, moderately moist soil and regular watering.
