As a low-growing, evergreen cover for embankments and soil erosion control

Its slightly prickly foliage makes it suitable for screens or barriers in low-traffic areas.

Rapidly developing and amenable to pruning, its fragrant blossoms attract nectar-feeding birds and butterflies, 

Though not prohibited by the Sewerage Act, it is advised to keep this species at least two meters from any sewer main or connection.

Grows well in full sun or shade. Tolerant of heavy frosts and extended dry periods once established.
