The Mallee Emu-wren is a tiny bird, only 15 centimetres long. But it's filamentous tail can be up to 1.5 times the length of its body! Since the Murray Mallee Region in South Australia and Victoria is its only habitat, fires have recently destroyed much of it. The conservation effort is working but another fire could put the Emu-wren on a path to extinction.
